List
of mp3 software for you to download including Encoders,
Decoders, and CD Rippers. The main catch with some of these
free software is either they're ad supported, have limited
functionality, or the developers have stopped supporting them.
If you've a large collection of MP3 files, you would want
a program that can play and manage your collection easily.
A Jukebox program will do such tasks, they don't just
let you play audio files in a variety of formats but they
also have the ability to decode, burn CDs and help you download
your MP3 files into a portable mp3/CD player. Winamp and Sonique
are by far two of the more popular and well-established players
for Windows. If all you're after is a player that plays mp3
files, then Winamp is the right choice, it's a small download
with excellent sound quality. If you demand more, check out
one of the Jukebox type players.
Rippers
CD rippers are software that are used to extract raw audio
data from an audio CD and converting it into a WAV file format.
An encoder converts the WAV file into an MP3 file. Many MP3
programs such as Music-Match Jukebox and Media Jukebox contain
both rippers and encoders which can bypass the intermediate
WAV stage and convert the raw audio CD straight to MP3. You
should look for CD ripper that support digital recording.
Well, most programs do anyway. Digital recording is the process
of recording from a digital source to a digital output. It
doesn't requires the file to pass through an analog soundcard.
Digital-digital recording sounds a lot cleaner than digital-analog-digital.
Of course, you can convert the data through your sound card
(while the audio is played).
Encoder
and decoder
Mp3 encoder is a software that converts uncompressed WAV (Windows)
or AIFF (Mac) files into compressed files, using a CODEC
such as MP3 or RealAudio that can be played on a computer
or portable mp3 player. A decoder is exactly the opposite
of an encoder and it is used to convert (decode) audio files
in MP3 or RealAudio format to WAV or AIFF format. The WAV
files can then be transferred into a CD to create an audio
CD containing your favorite songs. One cool feature that you
may want to look for in these software is the ability to specify
variable bit rate (VBR) or constant bit rate (CBR) encoding.
During a VBR encoding, the bit rate changes to create
the best sound-to-size ratio. This feature is useful if you
want to save your mp3 files into your portable MP3 player
or for voice recordings or music in which there are pauses
or long stretches of very quiet music.
